Join us for a FREE children’s workshop inspired by Ayesha Sultana's exhibition, Fragility and Resilience! This creative experience invites kids to delve into the delicate balance between strength and vulnerability in nature. Through engaging hands-on activities, participants will discover how natural materials and artistic techniques can beautifully illustrate concepts of fragility and resilience, all while reflecting on the world around them.
Workshop Structure:
Introduction
We kick off with a warm welcome and icebreaker! Children will share their thoughts on what “fragile” and “resilient” mean to them, drawing examples from nature—like how plants can bend without breaking in strong winds. Following this, we’ll embark on a mini-tour of the exhibition, highlighting Sultana’s stunning hand-blown glass sculptures and her innovative use of delicate materials such as Japanese silk tissue.Activity: Watercolour on Paper – Ocean and Sky
In this fun activity, children will explore the beauty of watercolours on paper, inspired by Sultana’s techniques. Using bubble solution and non-toxic paint, they’ll blow colourful bubbles onto paper to create abstract representations of the ocean and sky. This process will highlight the fragility of ecosystems and the beauty found within.Closing Reflection
We’ll come together for a group sharing session, where children can present their artwork and reflect on their creative journey. Discussion questions will include:How can something fragile also be strong?
What examples in nature demonstrate the harmony of fragility and strength?
This workshop is recommended for children between 7 to 12 years old, and is the perfect way to empower them to explore complex ideas through hands-on creation and reflection, enriching their understanding of the natural world while nurturing their creativity.
